Wombats Dubai Super League 2016 – 17.
4th November 2016.

Wombats Yellows went up against SCB in a clash which would either take SCB on top of the points table or give Yellows a break into the top 4.
The Yellows won the toss and elected to field to avoid bowling with a bar of soap (thanks to the dew) later in the evening. The dew settled early on and did not provide any relief to the bowler whatsoever.
SCB went on to a steady start with 26/0 in 4 overs before they broke the shackles and reaped 22 runs in the 5th. Prompting Atif to bring in spin early on, Abid wove a magical spell around the SCB’s top order and grabbed the first hat-trick of the DSL !! SCB pulled back and game on. Abid got another in his 2nd over.
The spinners got stuck in from both ends and tied things down while the batsmen were just happy to play it through. A gritty knock by Khurram saw SCB through the tough phase as he waited for Yellows to run out of spinning options. Khurram counter attacked before falling for 51. Letting the wet ball through in the field cost yellows dearly as they now had to chase down 189 in 24 (owing to the slow over rate)
Problems for Yellows only got bigger after they lost both openers early on and Masam and Atif Ilyas left to do a lot of consolidation work. The dew got heavier and so did the pink ball at play, making hitting the shots even tougher. Frustration crept in as SCB pulled the pace off the ball with what seemed a lineup full of spinners. The yellows kept losing wickets in an attempt to hit out and got stuck in the vicious cycle. Abid and Munazzar battled hard but couldn’t undo the damage. Soon the yellows found themselves struggling to avoid gifting the bonus point to SCB and ended the innings at 149.
